Texas Tech Takes Game Two Of Missouri Series

After dropping the conference opener, the Texas Tech Red Raiders bounced back with an 11-6 victory over Missouri on Saturday afternoon. Eight of nine Tech batters recorded at least one hit and starting pitcher Cory Metzler tossed 7.2 strong innings in his first start of the season.
Both teams scored early with one run apiece in the first inning. With Missouri up 5-4 in the seventh, Texas Tech sent 13 batters to plate and scored seven runs on four hits and two Tiger errors. Of the seven runs, five were unearned.
Mark Austry, in his second start at first base, went 1-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Centerfielder Marco Cunningham was 3-5 with a triple, two doubles, two runs and a stolen base. Chaz Eiguren continued to hit the ball well, going 3-4 with a double and two runs. Eiguren is hitting .625 (10-16) over the last three games with four home runs, a double, 12 RBI and seven runs. Second baseman Shaun Larkin extended his season-high hitting streak to eight games with an infield single in the fifth inning.
Metzler, penciled in as the closer to start the season, earned his first win after allowing six runs (five earned) on 12 hits, four walks and five strikeouts over 7.2 innings of work. Steve Rowe pitched the final 1.1 innings and allowed one hit and a walk while fanning one batter.
The final game of the series will be tomorrow at Dan Law Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Red Raiders will host New Mexico on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before San Diego State comes to Lubbock next weekend.
