For the first time since the formation of the Big 12 Conference, the Missouri Tigers won the season series with Texas Tech by winning 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field. Missouri won 16-14 in 10 innings on Friday and Tech won 11-6 in Saturday's game.
Red Raider starting pitcher Kevin Tracey tossed his second complete game of the season. He allowed six runs (four earned) on nine hits, four walks and a season-high eight strikeouts. However, it wasn't enough as four Texas Tech errors proved to be too costly for the Red Raiders.
Tech started quickly with a two-run blast to left center from Chaz Eiguren. The designated hitter finished the day 3-5 with three RBI to lead the Red Raiders at the plate. In the series, Eiguren was 9-15 (.600) with two home runs, five runs and nine RBI. He has hit five homers in the last four games.
Missouri responded with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Red Raiders tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Eiguren drove in Marco Cunningham who lead off the inning with a single to centerfield. In the top of the eighth, Missouri scored the winning run on an infield single in which Tracey missed the bag on a throw from Mark Austry.
Trey Lunsford finished the day 3-3 at the plate while Marco Cunningham went 2-5 with a pair of runs. Cory Sellars added an RBI in the fourth inning and was 1-3 at the plate.
The Red Raiders will host New Mexico on Tuesday at 4 p.m. San Diego State will come to Lubbock for a three-game series beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start and the first pitch on Sunday will be at 1 p.m.
