LUBBOCK, Texas - Sophomore linebacker Lawrence Flugence was named the SBC Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, announced by the Big 12 Conference today.
Flugence returned a blocked field goal 79 yards for a touchdown against Oklahoma State last Saturday after sophomore defensive end Aaron Hunt thwarted Oklahoma State's only opportunity to put points on the board when he blitzed through the OSU line and blocked the Cowboys' only field goal attempt. The scored gave the Red Raiders a 14-0 lead en route to their 58-0 shutout over the Cowboys.
Flugence is the third Red Raider to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors. Freshman wide receiver Carlos Francis (Sept. 9) and true freshman punt returner Wes Welker (Oct. 30) have been the other two recipients for league honors.
