Eight Tech Soccer Players Named Academic All-Big 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - Eight Texas Tech soccer players were named Academic All-Big 12 Tuesday, including all four departing seniors, as announced by the conference office.
Seniors JoDee Campbell and Ana Ontiveroz were named to the First Team, while Lindsay Thompson and Kelly Taylor were on the Second Team. Also named to the First Team were juniors Carrie Graham, Brittney Peese and Marie Valdez, as well as sophomore Lindsey Wile.
Campbell, an Exercise and Sports Science major from Duncanville, Texas, played in eight games with two starts at goalkeeper for Tech. She made 22 saves on the season with a 1.86 goals-against-average.
Lubbock, Texas, native Ontiveroz played in six games with one start. She is a Family Studies major who played in 12 career matches for the Red and Black.
Thompson is appearing on her third Academic All-Big 12 squad. The Houston, Texas, native started all but one game during her senior campaign, scoring one goal against Portland State this season. She will graduate with a degree in Psychology.
Defender Kelly Taylor majors in History, and ended her Tech career with 60 career games played. The Tulsa, Okla., native played in all but one game in 2000, notching one assist this season.
Valdez and Peese are appearing on the First Team for the second straight year. Valdez is majoring in Spanish with a minor in Zoology. The Isleta, N.M., native scored three goals and had three assists in 17 games this season for Tech.
Goalkeeper Peese hails from San Antonio, Texas, and started 14 matches in 2000 for head coach Felix Oskam. Peese made 84 saves on the season with a 2.41 goals-against-average. She stands first on the career saves list at Tech with 225, and has three of the top six spots on the single-season saves list. Peese is majoring in History.
Graham, the Dallas, Texas, and Ursuline Academy product, finished second on the team in scoring in 2000 with 12 points, scoring five goals and assisting on two goals during her junior year. She stands seventh on the Tech career points list with 30, and tied for sixth on the career goals list with 13. Graham is majoring in Human Development.
Sophomore Lindsey Wile hails from Austin, Texas, and Westwood High School. Wile was a valuable defender for the Red Raiders this season, normally marking the opponents best offensive player. She also finished third on the squad in scoring with 10 points, netting four goals and two assists. Wile is an undecided major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Eighty-six players from the conference schools were named to the squad, with two holding a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. The soccer academic all-league team consisted of 75 combined first-team members with 11 on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
