Track Teams Compete at Wisconsin Elite Invitational

MADISON, Wis. - The Texas Tech men's and women's track teams compted at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational today at Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center on the University of Wisconsin campus. The meet had a non-scoring format but a number of Tech athletes put up impressive showings.
One impressive performance belonged to Sipa Finau in the weight throw. Finau threw a distance of 17.69 meters (58'-0.5"), just one centimeter shy of a provisional NCAA qualifying mark. Bobbi Crill set a new school record and a personal best mark as she won the pole vault competition with a vault of 3.35 meters. Leigh Daniel was just one-second shy of a provisional qualifying mark in the 3,000 with her time of 9:42.12.
Also on the women's side, the 4x400 relay team of Sherri Coleman, Nina Roberts, Tami Zachary and Ngozi Iwu took first place with a time of 3:52.74. Coleman was also the winner of the 60-meter dash(7.62) with Zachary finishing third (7.72). Iwu finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:15.73.
On the men's side, Carlos Francis advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 6.83. Francis also finished fifth in the 200 with a season best time of 22.22. Brandon May advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in sixth place (8.29).
The Red Raiders will be off next weekend but return to action on February 11 and 12 when they travel to Indianapolis to compete at the Butler University Invite.
