LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech track and field team will host their second home indoor meet of the season, the Red Raider Invitational, on January 29 and 30 at the Athletic Training Center on the campus of Texas Tech University. The meet will showcase teams from Abilene Christian University, Dallas Baptist, McMurry College, New Mexico State University, Odessa Junior College, University of Texas-Arlington, University of New Mexico and University of Juarez. The Invitational will feature half of the field events and 5000-meter and distance medley relay runs on Friday and all remaining events on Saturday.
"We are excited to be hosting our second of three meets at home this indoor season," Director of Track and Field Greg Sholars said. "Our student-athletes enjoy competing in front of our fans in Lubbock. Also, all the schools competing have solid programs and will provide our men and women with challenging competition. It should be a great two days."
The Red Raiders are looking to build off the momentum from last weekend's Rocky Mountain Cup meet at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. At the meet, Rohan McDonald provisionally qualified for the NCAA indoor championships in the 400-meters with a time of 46.73 and Shameron Turner provisionally qualified in the 200-meters with a time of 20.98. For the women, Ngozi Iwu took first place in the 400-meters with a time of 55.36. While Sherri Coleman was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meters with a time of 7.45. Both women's marks were new school records.
Events on Friday are scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday's events will begin at 9 a.m. and end at approximately 4:10 p.m. with the men's mile relay. Admission to the Red Raider Invitational is free.
