Men's Tennis Wins Over Arkansas-Little Rock

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team (3-0)defeated Arkansas-Little Rock (4-2), 5-1, today at the Nautilus Courts in Lubbock, Texas. The team's 3-0 record is the best start of a season since 1992 when they opened with a 6-0 record.
The Red Raiders were paced by three straight-set victories. No. 1 Borut Martincevic (Maribor, Slovenia) defeated Felipe McCluskey 6-4, 6-2, freshman No. 3 Jevgenij Cariov (Lithuania) beat Domenico Marra 7-5, 7-5 and No. 6 Dustin Hawk won over Luciano Diez 6-1, 6-4. The lone loss of the day came at No. 5 where Petar Danolic fell to Zibu Ncube 6-1, 6-2.
The doubles point was not played in the match at both coaches decision.
"Our team played a complete match from top to bottom against a very dangerous team," Director of Tennis Tim Siegel said. "I feel like there are no holes in this year's team. It will take a tremendous effort like this to beat Arkansas."
Texas Tech returns to the court tomorrow at the Athletic Training Center when they face #39 Arkansas at 1:30 p.m. The Razorbacks, Siegel's alma mater, enter the match with a perfect 4-0 record. Last season, the Red Raiders dropped a close to Arkansas by the score of 4-3. Adding further intrigue to the match, Siegel and assistant Matt Jackson have promised to shave their heads if the team can complete a sweep in this weekend's matches.
Admission to the match is free. The first 50 fans receive free t-shirts.
