LUBBOCK, Texas -
The Texas Tech men's tennis team received a No. 35 national ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association pre-season poll released yesterday. The ranking moves the team up one spot from it's No. 36 ranking to end the 1999 season.
"The ranking speaks well about where this program is nationally," head tennis coach Tim Siegel said. "We're happy to be where we are now, but it matters more where we are at the end of the year."
Texas Tech was the fourth Big 12 team in the rankings with 1,399 points. Baylor came in at No. 7, while Texas A&M is ranked 17th and Texas is No. 20. UCLA came in as the No. 1 ranked team, followed by Louisiana State, Stanford, Duke and Florida.
In individual rankings, Tech's Borut Martincevic cracked the top 100, coming in at No. 79. Martincevic was ranked No. 51 at the beginning of the fall season.
