CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, playing only the second game in program history, fell to Texas Tech 96-83 Wednesday night.
But the Islanders turned a 28-point second-half deficit against the Red Raiders into an eight-point contest before a sold-out crowd of 3,500 at Memorial Coliseum.
Overmatched for more than 25 minutes against the Big 12 opponent, A&M-Corpus Christi (1-1) trailed at one point, 76-48, then came to life and gave Tech (1-1) a significant scare down the stretch.
Michael Hicks led Corpus Christi with 30 points and 13 rebounds.
Three Tech players scored 20 or more points: Andy Ellis had 27 points and led with eight rebounds, James Ware had 23 points and Rayford Young added 21 points and led the team with eight assists.
