LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women?s soccer team claimed a 3-0 shutout over Texas today at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The Red Raiders improve to 6-6-1 overall and 2-3 in the Big 12, while the Longhorns drop to 5-6 and 2-4 in conference action.
Senior midfielder Lizzy Biles scored the first goal for Tech off a cross from senior forward Kristy Frantz at the 16:24 mark. Frantz then kicked in the second goal at the 25-minute mark on a diagonal cross through ball from junior midfielder Jennifer Hamm. Tech?s last score came with 33 seconds left in the game by Hamm on a through ball from sophomore forward Marie Valdez.
Sophomore Brittany Peese played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied six saves, while recording her third shutout of the year.
Texas Tech outshot Texas 21-8, including seven shots-on-goal to UT?s six. Each team recorded six corner kicks apiece.
?This is a great win for us, obviously,? said head coach Felix Oskam. ?We played much better in the first half but in the second half, they (UT) really put the pressure on. My challenge to the girls at halftime was to not let them score, to keep it at least 0-0 for the half, and we accomplished that. I am very happy with today?s win.?
The Red Raiders will conclude their home schedule Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M. Prior to the game, this year?s five seniors will be honored.
