Tech Soccer Falls to Baylor

WACO, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team suffered a 5-2 defeat at No. 25 Baylor in the last regular-season game of the season.
The Red Raiders got on the board first when Lizzy Biles scored off an assist from Carrie Graham in the ninth minute of play, but that would be it for Tech until late in the second half when Biles scored in the 78th minute.
Baylor put up their first goal in the 33rd minute when sophomore Megan Townes fed senior Courtney Saunders. Less than a minute later, Saunders and senior Nikki Hales teamed up to provide Gina Castellano with her third goal of the season. That assist foreshadowed what can only be described as the Saunders and Hales show. Saunders netted her second goal of the game in the 38th minute. Then she and Hales teamed up for goals in the 40th and 76th minutes.
It was the third career hat trick for Saunders and the first time for her to score four in a single game. She moved to second on Baylor's single game points list with nine and is now tied with Hales and redshirt senior Molly Cameron for second in most goals in a single game.
"This was a great way to end my senior season. Everything seemed to click for us offensively. Nikki and I have played soccer together since we were 12 years old. It has been such an honor to play with with her and I can't think of a better way for us to leave Baylor," Saunders said.
The Bears took 14 shots on goal compared to Tech's seven. Goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse had five saves, while Brittney Peese of Texas Tech had nine.
Baylor moved to 13-5-1 on the season and ended Big XII play at 6-3-1. The Red Raiders fell to 8-9-1 and 4-6 in league action. Both teams will play in the Big XII Tournament beginning Wednesday in San Antonio.
