LUBBOCK, Texas - One of Texas Tech's newcomers is making her mark with the soccer team. Carrie Graham, a sophomore transfer from Alabama-Birmingham has become a good fit with the Tech squad. Graham who grew-up in Dallas left the Lone Star state for her first year of college to play at Alabama-Birmingham.
At the UAB, Graham played in every game of the 18 games and was named to Conference USA's All-Freshman team. As a freshman, Graham was second on the team in scoring with five goals and third on the team in points with 13.
Graham was recruited by Tech while still in high school by current coach Felix Oskam, however she decided to play in Alabama. Last year, Oskam heard that Graham was interested in transferring, so he contacted her immediately.
"She fits in perfectly in the way we play," Oskam said about Graham. Oskam went on to say that because of her attitude she fits in well with the Tech squad, "She is a fun (person) and hard worker."
Graham said that the competition is more challenging in the Big 12 compared to Conference USA. She has made a smooth transition this year making Tech opponents aim their defense against her strong offensive attack.
"Go into every game ready to play," Graham said. This attitude has helped her make the transition and is one of the reasons she leads the team with eight goals, 17 points and four-game winning goals.
