Derrick Mitchell Jr. currently serves as the Director of The J.T. & Margaret Talkington Leadership Academy under the rebranded Student-Athlete Development department. In this role, he focuses specifically on leadership development programming and training within the JTMT Leadership Academy Framework. Mitchell arrived to Texas Tech University in July 2021.
Mitchell, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, competed in Football from 2011-2015 at Florida State University where he was apart of the 2013 National Championship team. Post athletic career Mitchell took on a Graduate Assistantship role in Student- Athlete Development at FSU. After graduating from Graduate school he accepted a position at Washington State University as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development and Well-being.
Mitchell earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Sport Management from Florida State University.
