DJ Clark has been involved in strength and conditioning at Texas Tech since 2013. In 2018, he became Tech’s inaugural head sport scientist, with responsibility over data analytics and technology implementation and usage for all Red Raider sports programs. Clark was the head S&C coach for the All-Girl and Co-ed Cheer teams from 2015-2018. He is currently the head S&C coach for the pom squad. Additionally, he is an assistant S&C coach to the women’s soccer and volleyball teams. As a S&C coach, Clark has trained 9 national championship teams, was the assistant S&C coach for a Big 12 Championship team, as well as being the S&C coach for the 2022 team USA pom squad. Clark has also assisted with 4 research papers on athlete biometric monitoring that have been published in medical journals. As well as his responsibilities with Texas Tech athletics, Clark has also been the speed and agility coach for FC Dallas WTX since 2017. In 2021 he was named the Director of Performance for the club.
Before beginning his career in strength and conditioning, Clark was on the USA National Team for SanShou (boxing, Muy Thai, Judo). During his career, he won four USA National Championships and earned two bronze medals at the Pan American Games in Argentina in 2010 and Mexico in 2012. He was also named the head coach for the Youth SanShou national teams for two years in 2011 and 2012 and was the assistant coach for the Junior National teams. During 2011 and 2012 was also in charge of implementing S&C programs for national team athletes including the full national team. During his coaching career, his athletes received 15 gold, one silver and three bronze medals at USA National Championships. He also had two make the USA Junior National team. Clark has also competed in bull-riding as well as Lettering in Football and Track & Field at Plainview high school.
Clark received his bachelor’s in Kinesiology and Sports Management from Texas Tech. He also has a Master’s in Secondary Education from Abilene Christian. He is a certified Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCCC) through the CSCCA, as well as (CSCS) Certified through the NSCA.
