Katie Munger is beginning her 21st season at Texas Tech, beginning her career as a member of the strength and conditioning staff with the Red Raiders in 2004. Now the Associate Director of Strength & Conditioning, she is responsible for training the soccer and volleyball teams. During her tenure at Texas Tech, she has worked with almost all the sports in the department and has won four Big 12 Championships with her teams.
In May of 2017, she was awarded the prestigious title of Master Strength & Conditioning Coach by the CSCCa, which is the highest honor a strength and conditioning coach can receive. Munger was inducted into the William Jewell College Hall of Fame in 2013 for her outstanding basketball career. In 2009, the student-athletes chose her as the Staff/Sport Administrator of the Year and awarded her a TechSpy. She was also honored with the athletic department’s Masked Rider Award in 2018 for excellence in service in her department.
Before arriving at Texas Tech, Katie served as the assistant women's basketball coach for Lubbock Christian University where her duties included developing the strength and conditioning program for the team.
She graduated from William Jewell College in Missouri in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and received her Master's of Education at Lubbock Christian University in 2004.
As a collegiate athlete, Katie played basketball for William Jewell College and received numerous awards including two All-American honors, three all-conference nods and three awards as a scholar-athlete.
She is a certified Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCCC), is Functional Movement Screen (FMS) certified and also has earned a Sports Performance Nutritionist Certification.
Katie is married to Larry Munger and the couple has three daughters, Peyton (15), Ellie (13) and Kamryn (11). In her spare time, Katie enjoys being outdoors, running, working out, playing pickleball, spreading awareness for Joubert Syndrome and hanging out with her family.
