Friedman Lands Berth on GTE Academic SquadLUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech cross country runner Ben Friedman landed a berth on the District VI 1996-97 GTE Academic Fall/Winter At-Large team, it was announced Thursday. Friedman, a senior from Fort Worth (Southwest), was Texas Tech's number two runner in the fall of 1996. He posted a 21:30.59 at the West Texas A&M meet and was ninth at the Kachina Invitational with a 25:25.2 and also placed ninth at the Red Raider Invitational. A member of Phi Delta Theta, Friedman is on the pledge review board and head of risk management. He served two years on the Student Senate, elected from the School of Business. Friedman has made the President's List (4.00 GPA) and Dean's List (3.50-3.99 GPA) a total of five times. He carried a 3.800 Grade Point Average in Accounting. He will receive both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Accounting when he graduates this spring. Friedman and the other nine members of the District VI team will go on the national ballot along with the 10 winners from the other seven districts. From those 80 athletes, the GTE Academic All-America team will be selected. The All-America team will be announced April 2. |
