Red Raiders move to No. 13 in both national polls

Texas Tech dropped one spot to No. 13 in the latest Associated Press and coaches polls Tuesday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech dropped one spot to No. 13 in both the Associated Press and U.S. LBM Coaches polls Tuesday following its 33-10 victory to open the season over Abilene Christian.
The Red Raiders remain the Big 12's highest-ranked team as BYU is two spots back at No. 15 overall, while Utah is No. 20 and Houston is up one spot to No. 22 this week. With a win this weekend at Oregon State, Texas Tech could potentially set up a top-25 matchup to start Big 12 play against Houston, which hosts Southern this Saturday night.
Texas Tech has appeared in the top 25 of both polls each week since the start of the 2025 season, rising as high as No. 4 last year before finishing at No. 7 overall. It marked the highest final ranking for the Red Raiders in either poll in school history.
Ohio State stayed as the top team in the country in both polls as the Buckeyes will travel to Austin this week for a top-five matchup with No. 4 Texas. Georgia followed the Buckeyes at No. 2 in both polls followed by Notre Dame at No. 3 and Indiana at No. 5 in the Associated Press rankings. The Fighting Irish are No. 4 in the coaches poll behind Texas at No. 3.
The matchup with Houston follows Texas Tech's first road trip of the season Saturday at Oregon State. Kickoff between the Red Raiders and Beavers is set for 6:30 p.m. CT with coverage provided nationally on CBS and the Texas Tech Sports Network. The game can also be streamed using the Paramount+ app.
