Tech, Houston set for ESPN Big Monday on Feb. 15

LUBBOCK, Texas – The national spotlight of an ESPN Big Monday matchup will be on Texas Tech when the Red Raiders host Houston on February 15, 2027 at United Supermarkets Arena. Tech and Houston have split their regular season series the past two seasons and have played a ranked vs. ranked matchup against each other the past seven times they have met.
The full Big 12 schedule will be announced when available. ESPN and the Big 12 announced multiple ESPN Big Monday matchups for the season including Kansas at Houston (Feb. 1), TCU at Arizona (Feb. 8), Arizona at BYU (Feb. 22) and Iowa State at Kansas (March 1) in addition to the Tech-Houston showdown which tips at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN. The Big Monday franchise has been a staple of ESPN's men's college basketball coverage since 1987, consistently showcasing intraconference matchups from the best teams and leagues in the country.
Last season, Texas Tech hosted ESPN College Game Day and Houston in the second meeting between the two teams and earned a 90-86 win over the Cougars. UH had won 69-65 at home two weeks prior in the first meeting last season.
Texas Tech is coming off its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Grant McCasland and a 23-11 overall record. Through three seasons under McCasland, the Red Raiders are 74-31 after a season where the team earned a program record four wins over Top 10 teams. Tech was ranked throughout the 2025-26 season for the first time in program history – ranking as high as No. 10 and finishing the season at No. 21 in the AP Top 25.
Houston went 30-7 overall and 14-4 in Big 12 play last season. The Cougars advanced to the Big 12 Tournament Championship but fell to Arizona and would advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 where their season ended with a loss to Illinois.
The Cougars are 33-29 all-time against the Red Raiders in a rivalry series that began in 1961. Since joining the Big 12 in the 2023-24 season, Houston leads the series 4-2 over Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are 16-9 at home against the Cougars in the series.
Texas Tech is set to open the 2026-27 season against Jackson State on Monday, November 2 at the United Supermarkets Arena.
