Red Raiders set to compete in NBA Summer League

LUBBOCK, Texas – NBA Summer League is set to begin this week in Las Vegas with former Texas Tech players Christian Anderson, Donovan Atwell, Chance McMillian, Jahmi'us Ramsey and Zhaire Smith on rosters for the event that runs from July 9-19 at the Thomas & Mack Center and The Pavilion on UNLV's campus. Roster movement in Summer League is possible with additional former players being added prior to the start of the 10-day event.
Anderson was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 18th selection in the 2026 NBA Draft after an all-America and record setting sophomore season while Atwell was signed to an undrafted contract with the Chicago Bulls following a season at Tech where he set a new program record with 130 made 3-pointers. McMillian, who played for the Red Raiders for two seasons, is with the Golden State Warriors and played in 30 games with their NBA G League team last season where he averaged 17.0 points and 5.1 assists per game. Ramsey is listed on the Denver Nuggets roster and Smith with the Lakers for NBA Summer League. Ramsey played at Tech in the 2019-20 season, leading the Red Raiders as a freshman by scoring 15.0 points per game before being selected by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft. Smith was Tech's first one-and-done player, averaging 11.3 points per game and helping the Red Raiders advance to the program's first Elite Eight in 2018.
The first day of NBA Summer League on Thursday features McMillian and the Warriors taking on Dallas at 6 p.m. on ESPN, while Anderson and the Hornets will play their first game in Las Vegas against the Orlando Magic at 6:30 p.m. with the game being broadcast on Amazon Prime. The second day of play features Ramsey and the Nuggets taking on Houston at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN along with Atwell and the Bulls opening NBA Summer League action against Memphis on Friday at 7 p.m. on Amazon Prime.
Prior to being drafted after his sophomore season, Anderson played two seasons at Texas Tech where he earned multiple All-America honors and All-Big 12 First Team in the 2025-26 season where he averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 assists, 3.3 3-pointers and 1.5 steals per game – establishing new program single-season records with 244 total assists and his average of 7.4 assists while leading the Big 12 and ranking fifth nationally in both categories. Anderson finished the season shooting 108-for-260 on 3-pointers (41.5%), ranking second all-time in the Red Raider record book with 108 made 3s in a season. Atwell transferred to Tech for his senior season, averaging 13.5 points per game in a season where he set a new program record with 130 made 3-pointers throughout the season and a new Big 12 record with 81 made 3-pointers against conference opponents. Atwell earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team honors after shooting 130-for-284 (45.8%) from beyond the arc last season.
McMillian played at Tech for two seasons after transferring from Grand Canyon after three seasons. He averaged 14.2 points per game for the Red Raiders in the 2024-25 season, helping lead the program to the 2025 Elite Eight and matching Anderson for the team lead with 71 made 3-pointers for the season. As a freshman in the 2019-20 season, Ramsey played 27 games and scored 406 points in the Covid-shortened season. He has played in 39 games in his NBA career, most recently in the 2023-24 season with seven games with Toronto where he averaged 6.7 points per game. Smith earned All-Big 12 Defensive Team, All-Big 12 Newcomer Team and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention before being selected with the 16th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
All 30 NBA teams will play at least five games in NBA Summer League with the championship game set for July 19. Every game will be available to watch on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and Prime Video. The full schedule with times and TV info is available here.
