LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech Golf announced on Friday the hiring of Nathan Weant as assistant coach, where he will serve as a shared assistant for both the men's and women's golf programs.
Weant returns to Texas Tech after serving as head coach at the University of Louisiana Monroe, bringing with him a strong reputation as a relationship-driven leader, elite recruiter, and passionate developer of student-athletes.
For Weant, the move back to Lubbock is about more than a position — it is about returning to a place that has always felt like home.
"Texas Tech is a place that means a great deal to me," Weant said. "I played here, I've worked here, and the vision and excitement this department has for the future make it impossible not to want to be here."
Weant returns to Texas Tech after previously serving three seasons (2020-23) as an assistant coach for the Red Raiders. In his new role, he will work across both programs, assisting with player development, recruiting, and continued enhancements to the Rawls Course and team facilities.
Men's golf head coach Greg Sands said Weant's energy, loyalty, and belief in the vision of Texas Tech Golf made him the perfect addition to the staff.
"Nathan is one of the most authentic and driven people in college golf," Sands said. "For someone to step away from a head coaching position speaks volumes about what Texas Tech means to him and how strongly he believes in where we are headed. He is an elite relationship builder, an outstanding coach, and someone who will positively impact every person in our program."
During his two seasons leading ULM, the Warhawks recorded their first multiple-win season since 2015 while setting several individual and team scoring records.
His return comes at a pivotal time as Texas Tech Golf continues building momentum nationally both on and off the course.
"I am thrilled to have Nathan back in Lubbock," women's golf head coach JoJo Robertson said. "His knowledge and experience will be so valuable to our program. I can't wait for him to get started."
Weant's responsibilities will also include strengthening golf operations, enhancing the experience surrounding the Rawls Course facilities, and contributing to the continued vision and growth of Texas Tech Golf.
"Nathan understands what makes Texas Tech special," Sands added. "He loves this university, he loves the people here, and he wants to help build something lasting. We are thrilled to welcome him and his family back to Lubbock."
Weant competed at Texas Tech for three seasons from 2011-13 before finishing his collegiate career at Stephen F. Austin. A native of Hallsville, Texas, Weant returned to Texas Tech following graduation to work within the athletics department before taking the head coaching position at Indian Hills Community College, where he led the program to the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Championship. After one season at Indian Hills, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at ULM before returning to Texas Tech in October 2020 for his first stint with the Red Raiders.
Weant will officially begin his role on June 1, 2026.
