Logan Hughes launched his 12th home run of the season Sunday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Logan Hughes launched a two-run homer but it was not enough Sunday afternoon, as Texas Tech fell 11-2 to Oklahoma State at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The home run for Hughes capped a strong week, as the Texas Tech (22-22, 6-15 Big 12) slugger went 9-for-18 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs. Hughes also scored five times and reached base on a free pass five times.
With the strong weekend, Hughes is now hitting .413 in Big 12 play with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 21 league games. His on-base percentage is .515.
Down 3-0, Tech pulled to within 3-2 on the Hughes blast in the fourth, and got a walk from Linkin Garcia to put the tying run on, but OSU's (28-16, 11-10 Big 12) Brennan Phillips used a ground out, a flyout and a strike out to strand the freshman at third base.
In the end, OSU's lefty, Phillips, tossed 8.1 innings and allowed just seven hits and two runs over his 120 pitches of work.
Still down by just a run, the Red Raiders got a two-out double from centerfielder Kyeler Thompson in the fifth before Phillips again stranded the runner in scoring position on a strike out.
Down just 4-2 in the seventh, the Red Raiders nearly forced an inning-ending double play, but after recording the out at second, an errant throw allowed the Cowboys to score twice and take a 6-2 lead.
Down 6-2 heading to the ninth, the Red Raiders saw OSU score five times to close out the 11-2 win.
In the setback the Red Raiders got strong work from freshman Adam Hayes and Bryce Suiter as the duo pitched 6.1 innings and struck out eight, while DH Caden Ferraro singled twice.

The Red Raiders hit the road for a weeklong road trip beginning on Tuesday night in Frisco against Oklahoma. First pitch from Riders Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
