Wes Kittley was named the region’s men’s and women’s Head Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – The Texas Tech track and field team claimed five USTFCCCA Mountain Regional awards, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Wes Kittley was named the Men's and Women's Head Coach of the Year, while Calvin Robinson was dubbed the Men's Assistant Coach of the Year. Temitope Adeshina claimed the Women's Field Athlete of the Year as Jonathan Seremes was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Year.
Kittley led the Tech men's and women's team to back-to-back Big 12 team titles with the men winning their fourth in a row. The men's side produced five individual conference champions with Malachi Snow winning the 60m and 60m hurdles and being named the meet's High Point Performer. Seremes won the Big 12 title and followed it up winning the NCAA title – his second-straight. As far as the women go, Tech produced two Big 12 champions, Adeshina being one of them as she also went on to win her second-straight NCAA title. The women finished ninth overall at the NCAA meet scoring 21 points, coming away with three First Team All-Americans.
Robinson coached athletes to account for 77 of Texas Tech's 125 points in the Big 12 title win. Under his wing, Snow went on to finish fourth in the 60m and seventh in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA indoor meet. His time of 6.46 in the 60m at the conference meet was 0.01 shy of the collegiate record, making him the fifth-fastest performer of all time.
Temitope produced an undefeated indoor season, winning her third-straight Big 12 title in the high jump and her second-straight NCAA crown. She cleared at least 1.93m (6-4) in each competition, capturing the national title at 1.97m (6-5 ½). Equaling her PB and Nigerian national record.
Seremes won the triple jump NCAA title, bounding 17.25m (56-7¼), becoming the ninth-best performer in collegiate history. He claimed wins in four of the five meets this season, including the Big 12 championship.
