Tech to face No. 24/25 UCF this weekend beginning at 6 p.m. CT on Friday
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 3 Texas Tech will make its way to Orlando to take on No. 24/25 UCF in the third Big 12 series of the season for both teams. The series will start at 6 p.m. CT on Friday and be followed by a 2 p.m. CT game on Saturday and a noon CT final game on Sunday.
The Red Raiders (27-2, 5-1) haven't played the Knights (23-7, 3-3) since 2024 when UCF took the series 2-1 in Lubbock. The Knights are coming off a series loss to Baylor at home last weekend while Tech managed to take down No. 12 Arizona in its series after dropping game one. Tech is 4-6 all-time against UCF as they look to add some more quality wins to its resume.
Quick Hits:
Mihyia Davis is one of the most valuable players in the country and has been that way her whole career. Among active players she ranks first in hits (302), at-bats (738) and stolen bases (128). She also ranks second in runs (205) and fourth in games played (217). She is the only player to have 40 hits, 40 runs and 25 stolen bases this year.
NiJaree Canady continues to make history as she is the first Red Raider to throw three no-hitters in their career. The reigning National Pitcher of the Year is 33 K's away from 1,000 for her career and is one of just two active players to have over 900 strikeouts. Canady had a rough outing in game one against Arizona but responded with a two-hit shoutout performance to clinch the series for the Red Raiders.
Kaitlyn "KT" Terry has been arguably the team's best player through the first 26 games of the season. She leads the team with a .574 batting average, which is also fourth best in the country, and has a 1.98 ERA and a perfect 11-0 record. Terry has found her role in the two-hole for Tech's offense.
Gerry Glasco is now 61-0 in conference series dating back to his time at Louisiana. The head coach has lost the first game of a series 10 times and has comeback to win each time. Tech looked to be in jeopardy of breaking that streak after a tough loss to Arizona in game one but retaliated in a big way with back-to-back run-rule victories.
The offense has been on fire. Tech is top 5 in the country in batting average (.412), doubles (60), hits (294), homers (59), on-base percentage (.499), RBI (275), scoring (10.17 runs per game), slugging (.766), runs (295) and stolen bases (74).
Every Red Raider who has taken 45+ at bats is hitting over .340 on the season. More specifically, hitting .348 or better. Last season, Tech had six players finish with a batting average above .300 - the current pace the Red Raiders are hitting at is hard to sustain for a full season, but not impossible.
The Red Raiders are already up to 19 run-rule victories this season. The program record is 20 and they had 14 all of last season. A new program record for shutouts in a season was set last year as Tech had 26 shutout victories. They have 10 already this season.
