Red Raiders ranked No. 16 in AP Top 25

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech is at No. 16 in this week's Associated Press Men's Basketball Top 25 to extend its program record to 23 straight appearances in the AP Top 25. Along with the AP Top 25, Texas Tech comes in at No. 16 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, No. 19 in the NCAA NET and No. 21 in the Kenpom ratings.
The Red Raiders (17-6, 7-3 Big 12) will host Colorado at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at United Supermarkets Arena before playing at No. 1 Arizona (23-0, 10-0 Big 12) at 5:30 p.m. (CST) on Saturday at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson, Arizona. The Wildcats play at No. 9 Kansas tonight before hosting the Red Raiders and ESPN College GameDay on Saturday.
The AP Top 25 is topped this week by the Wildcats for the ninth straight week (fourth straight unanimous) along with No. 2 Michigan (22-1), No. 3 Houston (21-2), No. 4 Duke (21-2) and No. 5 Iowa State (21-2). The Big 12 is also represented this week by the No. 9 Jayhawks (18-5) and No. 22 BYU (17-6). The Red Raiders were ranked No. 13 last week before falling at home to Kansas and then going on the road and earning a 70-63 win over West Virginia in Morgantown.
Tech is currently 3-5 against ranked opponents this season going into Saturday's matchup against No. 1 Arizona and is 2-7 all-time against No. 1-ranked opponents and 1-4 against top-ranked Big 12 teams. The Red Raiders went on the road and beat then-No. 1 Baylor by a 65-62 margin on January 11, 2022 for their last win over a No. 1-ranked opponent. This year's resume already has two top 10 wins on it for the Red Raiders with an 82-81 win over then-No. 3 Duke on Saturday, December 20 at Madison Square Garden before a 90-86 win over then-No. 6 Houston on January 24 in Lubbock.
Tech has been ranked throughout the season, including the program's best preseason ranking in its history at No. 10 after finishing last season at No. 8 with the program's third trip the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
RED RAIDER RANKING STREAK
Texas Tech was unranked for the majority of the 2024-25 season but would rise to No. 8 in the final rankings after advancing to the Elite Eight. This year's team was ranked No. 10 in the AP Top 25 Preseason Poll for its highest preseason ranking in program history. The program is now on its longest streak with 23 straight appearances in the AP Top 25.
