Red Raiders will kick off spring practices March 10 leading up to the April 17 annual Spring Game
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech announced Thursday its spring football schedule, which kicks off March 10 leading up to a Friday Night Lights version of the annual Spring Game on April 17 inside Jones AT&T Stadium.
Game time and other fan information pertaining to the Spring Game will be announced at a later date. Texas Tech has moved its Spring Game this season to a Friday night in order to accommodate the necessary load-in time required for the two George Strait concerts the following week inside Jones AT&T Stadium.
Texas Tech will follow a normal Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday practice routine for all but its first week of spring practices. The Red Raiders will utilize only a Tuesday, Thursday sequence on March 10 and 12 prior to dismissing for Spring Break. Texas Tech will return from Spring Break on March 24 to begin four-consecutive weeks of practices.
All practices other than the Spring Game are closed to the general public outside members of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and Double T Varsity Club members. High school coaches should contact Texas Tech Director of Player Development Dave Martin each week for practice access.
Texas Tech will host its annual Coaches Clinic on April 3-4, featuring not only head coach Joey McGuire but various members of his staff. Registered coaches will not only hear from the Texas Tech staff but be able to watch the Red Raiders in their first scrimmage of the spring that Saturday. McGuire will put the Red Raiders through their second scrimmage the following Saturday on April 11 before closing spring drills on April 17 with the Spring Game.
The Spring Game will round out Texas Tech's allotted practices in what will be a competitive spring under McGuire, who has reloaded the Red Raider roster with a mixture of returners and one of the nation's top transfer classes. A full report of Texas Tech's spring roster can be found here.
