Texas Tech is ranked as high as No. 9 in the polls this week after its 29-7 victory over Colorado
LUBBOCK, Texas โ Texas Tech will enter its lone open date on the 2026 schedule ranked in the top 11 of both major polls after the Red Raiders moved up Sunday to No. 9 in the U.S. LBM coaches poll and No. 11 by the Associated Press.
The Red Raiders jumped one spot in both polls after a 29-7 victory Saturday night at Colorado, which improved Texas Tech to 5-0 on the season. This is the second-consecutive season the Red Raiders have started 5-0 overall as Texas Tech is one of four FBS programs to do so, joining fellow Big 12 member BYU as well as Indiana and Miami (Fla.).
The victory marked Texas Tech's fourth-straight road win by 10 or more points dating back to the end of the 2025 season, matching the longest such streak in the past 45 years. The Red Raiders previously won four-straight road games by double digits during their memorable 2008 season.
It was also the 40th victory for the Red Raiders under Joey McGuire, who became the first Texas Tech head coach to reach that win total in 58 or fewer games. McGuire's program has now been ranked in the polls over 23-consecutive weeks dating back to the start of the 2025 season. That marks the longest streak in program history.
The Red Raiders are the second-highest ranked Big 12 program in both polls again this week, trailing only No. 8 BYU. The conference has five total ranked teams this week as No. 12 Utah is a spot behind Texas Tech followed by Oklahoma State at No. 18 and Houston at No. 22 in the Associated Press poll.
Texas Tech will take this week off before returning to Galaxy Stadium on Oct. 17 to host Arizona State. The showdown between the last two Big 12 champions has already reached sellout status as the Red Raiders enter the matchup riding an 11-game home winning streak.
The kickoff time and television designation could be learned as soon as Monday as part of the Big 12's selection process.
