October 02, 2026 | Women's Soccer
The Red Raiders closed out a perfect nine-point homestand to pull into the a tie for first place in the Big 12 standings
LUBBOCK, Texas โ Freshman Lauren Alvarez scored her first career goal and Kaitlyn Giametta scored from the spot, to push No. 14/16 Texas Tech to a 2-0 win Friday night over Arizona State at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
Seeking win No. 52 overall since the start of the 2023 season and their Big 12 leading 31st conference win over the same span, Texas Tech (7-0-4, 3-0-1) got off to a fast start Friday night using 14 first half shots and an astounding 80 percent possession rate to take a 1-0 lead into the break. The 31 wins in league play since 23, tie Tech with Arkansas for the second-most wins by a P4 team in the nation.
Tech's first half goal came just four minutes and 10 seconds before the break, when Alana Harry capped a strong run down the left side with a rocketed shot on goal that was saved by Arizona State's (7-3-2, 2-2-0 Big 12) Kennedy Zorn.
With the ball bouncing in the Sun Devils box, a failed clearance attempt fell to Alvarez, who ripped a knuckling left-footed shot that split the ASU backline before whizzing past a stunned Zorn.
Up by a goal at the break and after taking all 14 shots in the opening 45 minutes, Tech saw ASU come out flying in the second half, as the Sun Devils nearly equalized twice in both the 58th and 68th minutes but a pair of diving Addie Todd saves kept the Sun Devils off the board.
In her sixth clean sheet of the season, Todd made four key stops including the highlight reel 58th minute sprawling save on a rising shot from Sierra Bergen as well as a low skipping shot from Ella Kettles. The six career shutouts tie
Todd for 10th on the all-time shutouts list and brings the GK to within one of tying Victoria Esson for 10th-most shutouts in a season.
Looking for the knockout punch, the Red Raiders ultimately delivered it deep in the 77th minute when a perfect Kylie Bahr service found a streaking Taylor Zdrojewski.
As the match crossed into the 78th, Zdrojewski outran ASUs Natalie Drotzmann who chopped "Z" down in the box for a well earned penalty kick. Despite failing to score for the first time in four Big 12 matches, Zdrojewski played all 90 minutes and tallied six shots in the win.
The full-90 for Taylor was her first since Oct. 17, 2024, when she went to the distance in Tech's 1-0 win at WVU.
Armed with the ever-important second goal and more importantly a 2-0 lead, Tech closed out its third-straight Big 12 win and vaulted itself into a tie with Baylor and BYU atop the Big 12 table through four matches.
The Red Raiders also improved to 9-0-7 dating back to a 2025 loss at No. 22/7 Colorado (Oct. 23) and is now 22-0-7 in their last 29 games when scoring at least once.
Tech is also 53-0-2 in their last 55 matchups when scoring twice and are now 52-9-16 (.779) since the start of the 2023 season. Tech trails just Stanford (62), Florida State (57) and UNC (56) for the most wins in the country over that span.
In addition to running their unbeaten streak to a Power Four-leading 16 matches, the Red Raiders also improve to 14-0-4 at Ft. Walker since a 2024 loss to BYU in the regular season finale and to 16-0-5 in their last 21 matches in the State of Texas.
The win on Friday night closed out a perfect 3-0-0 homestand for the Red Raiders, who have now won four-of-five overall (lone non-win was the tie at UCF) and five-straight home games following a 1-1 draw to Pepperdine.
