Texas Tech enters its Homecoming matchup with Arizona State ranked as high as No. 9 this week
LUBBOCK, Texas โ Texas Tech will enter its Homecoming game with Arizona State ranked in the top 10 after the Red Raiders stayed at No. 9 in the U.S. LBM coaches poll Sunday and moved up one spot to No. 10 in the Associated Press poll
This is the first time this season the Red Raiders (5-0; 2-0 Big 12) have appeared in the top 10 of both polls as Texas Tech previously bounced around the 11-13 spots by the Associated Press. Texas Tech jumped into the top 10 of the coaches poll on Sept. 20 following its Friday night win over Houston to open Big 12 play.
The Red Raiders previously moved to No. 9 in the coaches poll last week after their 29-7 victory at Colorado, marking the second-consecutive season the Red Raiders have started 5-0 overall. Texas Tech is one of four FBS programs to do so, joining fellow Big 12 member BYU as well as Indiana and Miami (Fla.).
It was also the 40th victory for the Red Raiders under Joey McGuire, who became the first Texas Tech head coach to reach that win total in 58 or fewer games. McGuire's program has now been ranked in the polls over 24-consecutive weeks dating back to the start of the 2025 season. That marks the longest streak in program history.
The Big 12 Conference features five ranked schools again this weekend as BYU leads the league at No. 8 in both polls. Utah is just behind the Red Raiders at No. 11 in both polls, while Houston and Oklahoma State are both ranked as high as No. 18 in one of the two polls and No. 20 in the other. Arizona and Baylor are both also receiving votes this week.
The Red Raiders will look to build on that 5-0 start Saturday when Texas Tech hosts Arizona State in a battle of the last two Big 12 champions. Kickoff at a sold-out Galaxy Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. CT with coverage provided on FOX and the Texas Tech Sports Network.
