ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — Texas Tech's Connor Graham was selected on Monday to play in the 50th Walker Cup match at Cypress Point, on the Monterey Peninsula, in Pebble Beach, Calif. The soon-to-be sophomore this coming fall, who hails from Scotland, was one of 10 chosen for the Great Britain and Ireland team to compete against the United States, Sept. 6-7.
Graham is set for his second career Walker Cup, after making history in the 49th edition as he became the youngest player to ever compete in the Walker Cup at 16 years old. The 2023 tournament was held on the Old Course at St. Andrews. Now, in 2025, Graham will be stateside with Team GB&I as the 50th edition flips to the California Coast.
The Walker Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event contested every two years, alternating between sites in the United States and Great Britain. In 2023, the USA rallied to earn its fourth consecutive victory in the biennial competition, 14.5-11.5. The USA claimed seven of the 10 Sunday singles matches in its come-from-behind victory.Â
Graham is the sole returning player from the 2023 team of the 10 selections.
About the Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is a biennial amateur golf competition contested by teams representing the United States and Great Britain & Ireland. It's a match play event, where the two teams compete in both foursomes (alternate shot) and singles matches over two days. The teams are made up of 10 male amateurs from the USA vs. 10 male amateurs from Great Britain & Ireland. The USGA selects the USA team, while The R&A chooses the GB&I side.
The trophy is named after George Herbert Walker, who was president of the United States Golf Association (USGA) in 1920 when the event was conceived. The Walker Cup began in 1922, and the United States of America leads the series 39-9, having won the last four contests, with one match tied.Â
