Tech saw four or more players selected for the 10th time in the last 11 full drafts
LUBBOCK, Texas – Highlighted by Mac Heuer's eighth-round selection by the New York Yankees, five Texas Tech players were drafted Monday during Day Two of the 2025 MLB Draft.
The Red Raiders five total MLB Draft selections runs the all-time number of draftees in program history to 182 and marks the 37th-straight season that the Red Raiders have had at least one player taken in the MLB Draft.
With Monday's five selections, the Red Raiders had four or more players selected for the 10th time in the last 11 full drafts (excludes the five-round 2020 COVID shortened draft).
A native of Greensboro, Ga., Heuer was selected in the MLB Draft for the second time, as the righty was also a 16th Round selection to the Cleveland Guardians in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Serving as the Red Raiders Friday night starter in 2025, Heuer made 14 starts in 2025, striking out 48 batters in 53 innings. Heuer pitched six innings three times for Tech this past season including his best performance of the season when he allowed just one hit and struck out five batters at Houston.
The next Tech draft pick did not take long as just two rounds later (10th Round), the Tampa Bay Rays chose Trendan Parish with the 297th overall pick. A native of Poolville, Parish ended his four-year Tech career after making 65 total appearances and 11 starts, striking out 136 batters.
In 2025, Parish saved his best baseball for the final two months of the season, as the righty allowed just three total runs in his final 14.1 innings and eight appearances. That span included 3.1 scoreless innings against No. 16 Arizona and five one-run innings at Arizona State.
Parish closed his Tech career with eight total wins and 10 career saves. His 10-career saves are tied for the third-most in program history as Parish recorded at least one save in all four seasons of his career.
After seeing Heuer and Parish go inside the top-10 rounds, the Red Raiders saw a pair of players selected during the 15th Round, as Damian Bravo (No. 446) and Jack Cebert (No. 464) were selected by the San Francisco Giants and the Yankees respectively.
The former Big 12 Batting Champion in 2024, Bravo was named a First Team All-Big 12 selection after batting .330 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs in his third season in Lubbock.
A member of the Las Vegas Classic All-Tournament team as well, Bravo saw an uptick in power as the outfielder launched 28 extra-base hits including 13 doubles and a career-best 13 home runs.
Bravo also stole a career-best 18 bases in 2025, as the outfielder was one of five players at the Power-Four level to record an average of .330 or better, 10+ doubles, 10+ home runs, 50+ RBIs and 15+ steals.
The Red Raiders fourth selection, Cebert, also had a career-year in 2025 for the Red Raiders. A transfer from USF, Cebert won a team-best seven games (all in relief) and earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors.
Cebert became the first Tech reliever to record seven wins in a season since at least 2017, pitching to a 7-1 mark and a 2.58 ERA in 13 total Big 12 appearances. Cebert became the third Texas Tech pitcher (Chase Hampton and Heuer) and fourth Red Raider to be selected by the Yankees since the 2021 draft.
Tech's fifth and final selection, Petty, was also drafted for the second time in his career as the righty was a 13th Round selection in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Assuming a full-time weekend role for the first time in his career, Petty made 14 total appearances and 12 starts. He went 2-4 overall and struck out 46 in a team-high 62.1 innings pitched.
Petty pitched into the sixth in five starts including a career-best eight innings in the Red Raiders series finale win at Arizona State. The eight innings pitched were the most by a Tech starter in 2025.
The Red Raiders five draft picks will have until Monday, July 28th at 5 p.m. (ET)/4 p.m. (CT) to sign a contract with their respective teams.
