Meeting for the third time in four seasons, the Red Raiders will look to snap a 14-game road losing streak that dates back to an Apr. 12 victory at TCU. The Red Raiders are 0-3 this season on the road after falling in all three games at UNC.
* Riding a bit of a momentum high after Wednesday's 13-1 complete victory over UCSD, Tech will look to record its first weekend series victory this weekend against the Lopes. In Wednesday's win over UCSD, the Red Raiders were led by Canadians Rob Villeneuve and Tyler Boudreau (Right). Boudreau threw six shutout innings and allowed just two hits in his first career start as a Red Raider, while Villeneuve drove in three runs on a moon-shot three run home run to left. In the win, the Red Raiders recorded their sixth straight game with at least 10 hits.
* Five different Red Raiders enter the weekend batting at leas .300. That group is led by infielder and Co-Big 12 Home Run leader TJ Pompey who is batting .444 through the early season. First baseman Robin Villeneuve is second on the Red Raiders in average (.395) followed by OF Damian Bravo who sits at .362. Bravo who has recorded a hit in every game is joined by his outfield mate Kyeler Thompson who sits at .311.
MATCHUP NOTES:
LOOKING FOR A BETTER TRIP
The Red Raiders and GCU will meet in Phoenix for the first time since the 2022 season when the Red Raiders were swept in a midweek series. After dropping the opener of that two-game series 9-4, the Red Raiders were walked off 8-7 the next afternoon.
BACK UNDER THE LIGHTS
After playing its first night game of the season Tuesday night against UCSD, the Red Raiders will once again play under the lights this weekend, as both the Friday and Saturday night games against the Lopes will be night games. Both Friday and Saturday's contests are scheduled for 7 p.m (CT)/6 p.m. (MT) time with Sunday's final game scheduled for a 2 p.m. (CT)/Noon (PT) first pitch.
OFFENSE IS HEATING UP
After being limited to 12 total runs, 27 hits and seven extra-base hits, the Red Raider offense has come alive the last seven games, as Tech has hit .316 (79-250) since with 46 walks and just 57 strikeouts. The Red Raiders have scored 70 runs of that span and have at least 10 hits in all seven of those contests. For comparison purposes the Red Raiders hit just .199 (27-136) in the opening four games of the season at No. 6 UNC and against UC Irvine. So far this season, the Red Raiders have hit 23 doubles, a triple and 18 home runs through the seasons first 11 games. The Red Raiders have scored at least 10 runs in back-to-back games and in five of the last seven.
BRAVO AND ROB EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS
After a strong weekend that saw the duo go a combined 14-for-27 at the plate with two home runs and eight RBIs, Texas Tech Red Raiders Damian Bravo and Robin Villeneuve were named to the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic All-Tournament. Bravo who homered on both Friday and Sunday, jumpstarted an epic six-run come-from-behind victory over Illinois with his lead-off blast to begin the ninth inning. The outfielder drove in five over the weekend and scored three times. The other All-Tournament team selection, Villeneuve, doubled three times, drove in three and scored three times over the weekend.

MATCHUP NOTES:
SEEN THESE GUYS A BUNCH
The Red Raiders and Lopes face off this weekend in Phoenix for the third time in four seasons. The Red Raiders went to GCU three years ago (2022) before hosting the Lopes in 2023. Despite playing for the third time in four years and for the fourth time in 10 years, this weekends three games marks the first three-game weekend series since 1995 when the Red Raiders and Lopes met for a weekend set in Lubbock. Tech swept the three games from GCU.
LOOKING FOR A BETTER TRIP
ALL FOUR TIME ZONES IN THE FIRST MONTH
In the first four weeks of the season the Red Raiders have been busy, as Tech will play in four different states and four different time zones in the seasons first 14 games. The Red Raiders opened the season in North Carolina and the eastern time zone before coming home to Lubbock for a weekend set with UCI. The Red Raiders after spending last weekend in Las Vegas (PT) will head to Arizona to face GCU. On Friday and Saturday, Arizona will be on Mountain Time before the spring ahead on Sunday morning switches Arizona to Pacific Time.
BACK UNDER THE LIGHTS
ANOTHER STOUT FOE
Minus the nine games that they have played against Texas Tech, the Red Raider foes have had a strong start to 2025 as Tech boasts the No. 6 SOS in the country currently. The Red Raiders five opponents thus far are 35-15 (.700) in games in which they did not play the Red Raiders. North Carolina leads the way amongst that group as the Heels are 9-0 this season against non-Texas Tech opponents. The list also includes UC Irvine who is 7-2 against non-Tech opponents and Illinois who is 5-4 against those same foes. The list also includes 8-1 Texas and 3-8 Washington. The average RPI of Tech's opponents is 72. This weeks two foes in UCSD and GCU are no different as both the Triton's and Lopes enter the weekend at 7-4 overall. ROAD RED RAIDERS
The Red Raiders will become accustom to the road in 2025 as Tech will play just 26 of 53 games at home this season. Starting with the weekend set at No. 6 UNC, the Red Raiders will play 12 of their first 17 games away from the friendly confines of Rip Griffin Park at Dan Law Field and will play just 10 of their first 26 games at home. In the end, Texas Tech's 27 road games will bring the squad to seven different states: (Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and West Virginia). The Red Raiders in 2025 will play just 31 of 53 games inside the State of Texas. The Red Raiders 26 home games are the fewest in a season since 2022 when Tech also played just 26 games at Rip Griffin Park. The fewest home games the Red Raiders have played in a season was 2009 when Tech played just 22 total home games. This weekend series at GCU will mark the second of three straight road trips for the Red Raiders who open Big 12 play next weekend at Houston. The Red Raiders over the first 17 games of the season (three this weekend and three next weekend) will play just five total road games.TIME TO SNAP THE ROAD STREAK
After getting swept opening weekend on the road at then ranked No. 6 North Carolina, the Red Raiders are still seeking their first true road win of the season. Dating back to last season the Red Raiders have lost 14-straight road games, the longest streak by a Red Raider team under head coach Tim Tadlock. The Red Raiders last true road win came last Apr. 14 at TCU. The previous longest losing streak on the road under Tadlock was 10 straight (Mar. 10-May 15) losses back in his first season as head coach of the Red Raiders in 2013.

KYE IS A THREAT ON THE BASES
After recoding 43 stolen bases in his lone season at Galveston College a season ago, Texas Tech sophomore Kyeler Thompson has flashed some of that patented speed in so far as Thompson has stolen 10 bases thus far and has not been caught stealing. Thompson also sits with the third most runs on the team as the outfielder has scored 11 times in 11 games. Thompson's 10 stolen bases are the most in the league and the 10th-most in D-I Baseball. Thompson is currently on a 10-game hit streak.TJs SWINGING IT
Following a strong freshman campaign that featured 10 home runs and 12 stolen bases, sophomore TJ Pompey has looked the part of an All-American at the plate during the seasons first 3.5 weeks. The Big 12 co-leader in home runs, Pompey ha shit five long balls and driven in 11 runs thus far this season. The infielder has recorded a hit in all 10 games he has played this season and currently leads the Red Raiders in home runs (5), total bases (32), slugging percentage (.889) and is second in total assists (15). Pompey ranks 27th in the NCAA in slugging percentage, 35th in home runs and 60th in the country in batting average (.444).BOUDY SHOVES IN FIRST CAREER START
Seeking the first quality start of the season by a starting pitcher, the Red Raiders turned to junior Tyler Boudreau, who delivered an absolute gem. Boudreau allowed just two hits in his six shutout innings of work and struck out nine batters. The nine punchouts for "Boudy" were the most by a Red Raider since Kyle Robinson whiffed 11 batters at Oklahoma State last May the 11th. Boudreau got the day off in style, retiring the first 11 batters he faced before a fielding error ended the Canadians perfect game attempt. With the perfect game in the rear view mirror, Bourdreau kept pitching, as the righty did not allow a hit until there were two men out in the fifth inning. With his strong performance on Wednesday afternoon, Boudreau became the first Red Raider starting pitcher to earn a victory and became the first SP to reach the fifth inning this season.WHAT A DAY, EH?!?
While Canada Day might not be for another 115 days, Wednesday afternoon might as well have been Canada Day at the Rip, as the lone two Canadians on the Texas Tech roster had a day. The Red Raiders first Canadian, Robin Villneuve, went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the Red Raiders 13-1 win over UCSD. On the mound, the Red Raiders other Canadian, Boudreau, pitched the six shutout innings to record his first career win. No stranger to starting or pitching deep into games, Boudreau went 23-4 with 13 career complete games at Midland College. After appearing in just four games and redshirting as a freshman, Boudreau burst on the scene in 2022-23, going 12-2 with six complete games. After a strong 2023 season, Bourdreau took his game the next level in 2024, whiffing 128 batters in 85 innings. Boudreau finished the season 11-2 with seven complete games. Boudreau helped lead Midland to a 44-16 record and to within one game of the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction.HUGHES IS HARD TO GET LOOKING OR SWINGING
Despite striking out for the first time all season against UC San Diego on Wednesday afternoon, OF Logan Hughes remains one of the toughest players in the country to strike out this season. A transfer from Stetson Hughes struck out just 30 total times in 58 games played and 171 at-bats. Hughes enters the weekend sixth in the country in hardest to strikeout (1) in the country. When you expand the metric out to 40 total at-bats, Hughes becomes the hardest player in the country to strikeout joining Steven Milliam (LSU), Camden Johnson (Wichita State) and Camden Troyer of Liberty.ROBINS CATCHING FIRE
The 2023 JUCO home run leader, Tennessee transfer Robin Villeneuve has caught fire at the plate, as the first baseman is 14 for his last 29 at the plate with 12 runs scored a pair of home runs and 10 RBIs. Villeneuve has homered in back-to-back games after going the first nine games of the season without a home run. After an 0-for-4 day two weekends ago against UC Irvine, Villeneuve has recorded at least one hit in four straight games and three of the last four contests. The first baseman was named to the Las Vegas College Baseball Classic All-Tournament after hitting 6-for-12 with three RBIs and three runs scored. After leading off the ninth with a 399-foot blast on Tuesday night, Villeneuve, one-upped it on Wednesday afternoon when he connected on a three-run, 423'4" blast that cleared the trees in left centerfield and landed on Canton Ave.UP NEXT:
