
No. 13 Texas Tech on the road for two matches

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 13 Texas Tech Lady Raiders are on the road for a couple of matches this week starting with a contest on Thursday against the Utah Utes at 5 p.m. CT in Salt Lake City, before playing the No. 73 BYU Cougars on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT in Provo.
The Lady Raiders (9-1, 2-0 Big 12) hold a 4-4 record over Utah and a 3-4 record over BYU. Tech last played Utah on February 24, 2017 as the Lady Raiders won it by a 4-0 score. Tech also beat BYU twice last year, in the regular season and again in the Big 12 tournament.
Texas Tech began its conference slate with two home wins over Kansas and Iowa State. During those matches, Yekaterina Dmitrichenko went undefeated in singles and doubles, clinching two doubles points and the match over the Jayhawks.
Dmitrichenko leads the team with a perfect 8-0 dual singles record, followed by Hailey Murphy with seven wins. Jermine Sherif also boasts a perfect singles record at 4-0 all coming at court six. The No. 5-ranked duo of Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova lead the team with a 6-1 record, with the pair of Dmitrichenko and Murphy just behind with a 5-0 record.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Utah Utes are 5-6 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play. The Utes are on a four-match losing streak with losses to Arizona, Arizona, UC San Diego and San Diego State. They have key wins over Memphis and Utah State. In dual singles, Kaila Barksdale leads the team with seven wins followed by Emma Valletta with six wins. In dual doubles, the duo of Valletta and Sara Akid lead the team with a 5-2 record, all at court one.
The No. 73-ranked BYU Cougars are 10-5 on the season and 0-2 in conference. They recently lost to Arizona and Arizona State, while getting some wins Fresno State, Utah State, Denver and Colorado State. The Cougars are led in dual singles wins by Kendall Kovick with nine, followed by Bobo Huang with eight. In dual doubles, Kovick and Huang are ranked No. 56. The Cougars are led in dual doubles wins by the pairing of Kovick and Chelsea Bluestein with eight.
