Tech gets 14-3 win in game one and 4-1 win in game two of doubleheader to secure sweep
Chloe Riassetto and Samantha Lincoln combined for a great outing in the game one of the doubleheader, allowing just three runs and striking out five through 7.0 innings. NiJaree Canady threw another gem in game two of the doubleheader, tying her season-high strikeout total with 14.
Game One:
Tech struck early and often in game one, scoring three in the first inning, two in second and one in third to take a 6-0 lead going into the fourth inning.
Allred and Hailey Toney both homered in the first inning, Bailey Lindemuth drove in two runs with a single in the second and Allred drove in another run with a single in the third.
Kansas recorded back-to-back homers in the fourth inning, but Tech answered back with two homers of their own, the first by Demi Elder and the second by Mihyia Davis – their first ones of the season.
Elder was incredible in her return to play this weekend, batting .444 for the series with four hits and four RBI.
Allred, Alexa Langeliers and Alana Johnson put the finishing touches on the game as Tech added five more runs in the seventh. Allred drove in another run and Langeliers smashed a three-run homer before Johnson drove in a run with a double.
The Jayhawks added another run in the final frame but that would be all.
Lincoln improved to 6-2 on the season after going 4.0 innings and allowing just one run while striking out four.
Game Two:
Canady threw another master class in the circle striking out 14 batter – tying her season high – and allowing just one run on three hits.
Tech scored its first run of the game on a wild pitch that Johnson took advantage of. Kiley Huffman then added two more runs on the very next pitch with a single to left field to make it a 3-0 game going into the fifth.
Kansas added a run in the fifth to make it 3-1 but Allred got the run back in the seventh with a solo shot.
Canady was lights out and improved to 12-4 on the year and now has 163 strikeouts on the season.
