The Red Raiders fell behind 5-0 before falling 6-3
MANHATTAN, Kan. –Garet Boehm and Logan Hughes each homered but Texas Tech Baseball fell 6-3 Saturday afternoon to Kansas State at Tointon Family Stadium.
Down 5-0 after three, Texas Tech (8-15, 4-4 Big 12) got the solo home runs from Hughes and Boehm to pull to within 5-2 heading to the home half of the fourth.
After a scoreless bottom of the fourth from Jack Cebert, the Red Raiders added their third and final run of the afternoon when Damian Bravo singled home Coleman Ryan who led-off the frame with a double.
Down just 5-3 and with Bravo on first, first baseman Robin Villeneuve singled to place the tying runs on base with one out for Hughes. On the second pitch he saw from Kansas State's (18-8, 7-1 Big 12) James Guyette, Hughes sent a ground ball to third base.
K-State's Dee Kennedy wheeled and erased Villeneuve at second, as the Wildcats were unable to complete a 5-4-3 double play because Shintaro Inoue's throw sailed high.
Thinking the ball was going to go to the dugout, Bravo broke home, and was ultimately tagged out for the third and final out of the frame.
After the Wildcats increased their lead to 6-3 on a lead-off homer in the sixth off Cebert, the righty bounced back to retire seven of the next eight before K-State used a walk and a throwing error to place a runner in scoring position.
Hoping to keep the game at 6-3, Tech turned to another USF transfer in Logan Bevis. As he has for the majority of the year, Bevis was nails, as the righty used a strike out and a fly out to left to end the threat in the seventh.
Bevis pitch 1.2 perfect innings striking out three while Cebert allowed just one run in 3.2 innings and struck out five.
Down three heading to the ninth, the Red Raiders used a walk and an error to bring the tying run to the plate, but Kyeler Thompson struck out on a 1-2 offering from Guyette.
