Texas Tech handed UCF its first Big 12 loss as the two schools are tied for the Big 12 lead
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 14-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders secured their second top-20 victory in as many weeks Sunday afternoon with a dominant 4-1 win over No. 17 UCF at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Â
The victory improved the Lady Raiders to 14-2 overall and 7-1 now in Big 12 play as Texas Tech handed the Knights (15-2; 7-1) their first conference loss of the season. Texas Tech and UCF share the Big 12 lead heading into the final few weeks of the regular season, sitting a half-game ahead of Oklahoma State, which is 6-1 thus far in league play.
Â
The Lady Raiders claimed the doubles point as the No. 4-ranked duo of Avelina Sayfetdinova and Mariia Hlahola bested UCF's No. 30-ranked tandem of Olivia Lincer and Hannah Rylatt, 6-3, on court one. Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif followed with a 6-4 victory over court three to secure the point as the Lady Raiders overcame a previous loss on court two to start the match.
Â
The Lady Raiders cruised through singles as well. Sherif put together a commanding performance on court six, defeating Rylatt 6-3, 6-1, to extend Texas Tech's lead. UCF responded with No. 85-ranked Sophia Biolay earning a swift 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hlahola on court three.
Â
Texas Tech's top two players delivered from there, though, as Dmitrichenko recorded a 6-4, 7-5 victory on court two, while Sayfetdinova provided a similar straight-set win on court one against Lincer, who was ranked at No. 110 entering the week with no losses on the season. The Lady Raider fought through a tight first-set tiebreaker, ultimately winning 7-6 (7) before carrying that momentum to a 7-5 victory in the second set.
Â
Lila was down in the second set on court four when the Lady Raiders clinched the match. Hailey Murphy, meanwhile, split the first two sets with Olivia Bergler on court five.
Â
