The Red Raiders got five runs in the first three innings to roll to the series sweep
HOUSTON – Dylan Maxcey and Tracer Lopez each homered as Texas Tech Baseball rolled to an eight-inning run-rule 11-1 victory over the University of Houston at Schroeder Park.
In its third-straight win, Texas Tech (6-11, 3-0 Big 12) allowed just one run and seven hits in the series-sweep clinching win over Houston.
Looking to pull to a perfect 3-0 in Big 12 play, the Red Raiders got off to a good start in the top of the first inning, when the Red Raiders loaded the bases with no outs off Houston's  (11-7, 0-3 Big 12) starter Richie Roman.
After a strikeout put the first out of the inning on the board, Tech's catcher, Maxcey, plated Thompson on an RBI single.
Up by a run, designated hitter Davis Rivers walked, to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead. Tech's next hitter, shortstop TJ Pompey, ripped the Red Raiders second RBI single to close the three run frame.
After starter, Zane Petty erased a pair of one out base runners on a double play, the Red Raiders chased Roman behind the lead-off solo home run from Lopez and another five-pitch walk by Thompson.
The game remained 4-0 Red Raiders until the top of the third when Maxcey singled, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error.
With Maxcey on third and one out, Pompey nearly made it 6-0 Tech, but his long fly-ball was caught at the wall. On the flyout, Maxcey however did race home, to give the Red Raiders a 5-0 lead.
After Houston added its lone run of the ballgame in the bottom of the third, the game remained 5-1 Tech until the sixth when Tech placed a pair of runners on the corners with nobody out for Logan Hughes.
On the third pitch he saw in the at-bat, Hughes split the gap for a two-run double that gave Tech a 7-1 lead.
Needing three runs to end it early, the Red Raiders used another RBI single from Villeneuve and a two-run blast from Maxcey to take an 10-1 lead. The Red Raiders 11th and final run of the afternoon came off a Lopez Rbi single.
In the victory, the Red Raiders got 1.1 scoreless  innings each from relievers Logan Bevis and JT Drake. Bevis needed just 13 pitches in his five batters of work while Drake needed just 15 pitches to retire his four batters.
With the win the Red Raiders recorded their first weekend sweep of a Big 12 school since last Apr. 19-21 when Tech swept WVU at home. The road weekend sweep is the Red Raiders first since May 13-15 of 2022 when Tech swept then No. 3 Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
