
No. 13 Lady Raiders begin Big 12 play

LUBBOCK, Texas – After going 7-1 in nonconference play with a couple of top-25 victories, the No. 13-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders begin Big 12 this week with two home matches at the McLeod Tennis Center. First, the Lady Raiders welcome the No. 42 Kansas Jayhawks for a 5 p.m. match on Friday before hosting the No. 54 Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Kansas leads the all-time series against Tech with a 23-19 record. However, the Lady Raiders beat Kansas twice last season by scores of 4-3 to improve their winning streak to three. Tech leads the all-time series with Iowa State, 30-3, and won the last matchup on March 16, 2024 with a 4-0 sweep.
Texas Tech is led in dual singles wins by both Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy with six wins apiece. Dmitrichenko is one of two Lady Raiders to be undefeated in dual matches so far, with Jermine Sherif going 2-0 at court six this season. In dual doubles, Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova lead the way with a 5-1 record, all at court one. They are ranked No. 5 in the ITA doubles rankings, while the duo of Andreea Lila and Sherif are ranked No. 76. Â
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
No. 42 Kansas is 6-4 on the season with key wins over Arkansas, 4-3, Wichita State, 5-2, and Iowa, 4-1. The Jayhawks are on a three-match losing streak after falling to Northwestern, 3-4, Clemson, 0-4, and Old Dominion, 3-4. Three Jayhawks lead the team in dual singles wins with five each – Anna Putilina, No. 102 Gracie Mulville and Kyoka Kubo. In dual doubles, Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren lead the team with a 7-2 record at the top court.
No. 54 Iowa State is 6-2 overall and will open conference play against Colorado on Friday. The Cyclones have won their last two matches against Colorado State, 5-2, and against South Dakota, 7-0. The team's two losses were against Illinois, 0-4, and against Minnesota, 3-4. No. 81-ranked Anna Supapitch Kuearum as well as Julia Camblor lead the Cyclones with five dual singles wins. In dual doubles, the pairing of Kuearum and Cristina Ramoes Sierra lead the team with a perfect 3-0 record, all at court one.
