North Texas uses six-run seventh inning to defeat Tech
DENTON, Texas – No. 13 Texas Tech softball (15-4) fell to North Texas (13-2) 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium after the Mean Green walked it off in the bottom of the seventh.
Tech jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second inning after Mihyia Davis reached on a fielder's choice which drove in run. Davis proceeded to steal second which forced and error and allowed Bailey Lindemuth to score from third base. A wild pitch later, Davis crossed the plate to make 3-0.
Hailey Toney then knocked a solo shot to left center field to make it 4-0.
NiJaree Canady pitched four innings of shutout softball, striking out six batters. Chloe Riassetto followed her and went two shutout innings, striking out one.
After a Lauren Allred RBI made it 5-0 in the sixth, North Texas was able to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh after scoring two runs on a double.
The Mean Green walked it off with a grand slam to left field to complete its late-inning comeback.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will make their way to College Station to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational this weekend.
