
No. 23 Lady Raiders to play two matches in Arizona

LUBBOCK, Texas – After having a week off, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders will head to Tucson, Ariz., to take on the No. 24-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and the Arizona Wildcats this weekend at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. On Saturday, February 15, the Lady Raiders face UCSB at 12 p.m. before playing Arizona the following day at 11 a.m.
Texas Tech leads the all-time series with the Gauchos, 3-2, with the Lady Raiders last winning in Santa Barbara, Calif., on February 17, 2024 by a 4-1 score. On February 16, 2024 in the same tournament, Tech defeated Arizona, 4-3, and holds an all-time 8-5 record versus the Wildcats.
In dual singles, Hailey Murpy leads the way with five wins, with most of those coming at court five. In addition, Mariia Hlahola and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko are just behind with four dual wins each, with Hlahola playing mostly at court two and Dmitrichenko playing mostly at court three. In dual doubles, Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova boast a team-high four dual wins, all at court one.
In the latest ITA rankings, both Hlahola and Murphy earned their first career singles rankings as they check in at No. 95 and No. 118, respectively. In dual doubles, the duo of Hlaholla and Sayfetdinova are No. 6, the pairing of Hlahola and Murphy are No. 68 and the tandem of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif are No. 83.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Checking in at No. 24 in the rankings, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are 2-3 on the season. Their two wins come against No. 21 Vanderbilt (4-1) and against TCU (4-0). Their three losses were against LSU (1-6), San Diego (2-5) and at No. 8 Michigan (0-4). UCSB is led in dual singles by No. 14-ranked Amelia Honer with a 4-0 record at court one. Also in the singles rankings is Anna-Marie Weissheim, who checks in at No. 74. In dual doubles, Honer and Weissheim are ranked No. 17 in the nation and lead the team with eight overall wins as a pair.
Arizona is 5-3 on the season with key wins against Georgia Tech (4-0), Cal Poly (4-0) and LMU (5-0). Their three losses were against No. 21 San Diego (3-4), Rice (1-4) and Pepperdine (1-4). Arizona has two players ranked in singles as Josie Usereau is No. 34 and Midori Castillo is No. 121. In doubles, the pairing of Castillo and Martyna Ostrzygalo check in at No. 28 in the country.
