Volleyball falls to Wildcats in four set
TUCSON, Arizona – The Red Raiders (10-14, 2-10) fell 3-1 to Arizona (14-9, 8-5) on Friday afternoon in Tucson.
Three different Red Raiders hit double-digit kills including Kenna McKenzie (11), Kalli Jioshvili Ravva (11) and Addie Kanouff (10). Reagan Engler (8), Aliyah McDonald (7) and Shelby Ignash (6) rounded out the rest of the major scorers for the Red Raiders.
Jioshvili Ravva added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season tied for the team best with Peyton Dunn who picked up her fifth double-double in the match as well thanks to 25 assists and 14 digs. Dunn also had a career-high five aces.
Katelyn Cochran had a solid performance as well going for 19 assists and seven digs while Sierra Grizzle added 12 digs and four assists.
How it Happened:
The Wildcats look to get some revenge from their loss last week and set the tone in the first set as they hit .467 with 16 kills, three aces and a pair of blocks to account for 21 of their own 25 points. Tech made some impressive hustle plays thanks to Grizzle and Cochran but dropped set one 25-14.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and kept a grip on that three-point lead as they took a 15-11 lead into the media timeout. Tech held onto its lead but the Wildcats cut that lead down to one to force a timeout with the score at 20-19. Out of that timeout, Tech opened up a 5-1 run to end the set and tie the match.
Arizona got back on track in the third set as they had seven blocks as they held Tech under .100 hitting. Tech was down 24-19 and went on a 4-0 run to make it close, but Arizona was able to get the final point to take the 25-23 win.
The Wildcats closed out the set with a solid hitting performance in the fourth set. The team hit almost .450 as they had just one error. They took the final set 25-17.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will return home to host West Virginia and Cincinnati next week.
