Volleyball hosts West Virginia and Cincinnati
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball (10-14, 2-10) will host West Virginia on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Cincinnati on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena after spending last week in Arizona.
The Red Raiders are riding a seven-game winning streak against the Mountaineers (14-10, 2-10) and hold an 18-9 record against West Virginia all-time. Tech is 1-1 all-time against the Bearcats (12-10, 4-8) after winning their last meeting 3-2 in Cincinnati last season.
Quick Recap:
Tech had a tough week in Arizona, falling to the No. 8 Sun Devils 3-0 before the Wildcats got their revenge on the Red Raiders with a 3-1 win. Peyton Dunn and Kalli Jioshvili Ravva each recorded their fifth double-doubles of the season against Arizona on Friday while Taylor Bahnub was the bright spot on Wednesday against the Sun Devils, going for five kills while hitting a nice .714 percent with no errors.
Quick Hits:
Kalli Jioshvili Ravva has been exceptionally through Big 12 play, leading the Red Raiders in points, kills and attacks while also being second in digs and third in aces. After not playing much to begin the season, the French native has been a mainstay in the lineup and has helped propel Tech to its two wins against UCF and Arizona where she combined for 33 kills and nine digs while hitting an efficient .229 on 83 attempts.
For most players, a "sophomore slump" is a common occurrence. For Addie Kanouff, her sophomore year has been a welcomed sight for the Red Raiders. After appearing in just four matches last season, the 6'5 rightside has taken on a much bigger role this year and she has performed brilliantly. Kanouff is currently second on the team in points (226.0), kills (214), hitting percentage (.229) and blocks (50.0). She recorded a career-high 16 kills in Tech's win over UAlbany and has recorded five matches where she has hit over .300 with 10+ kills.
Freshmen Kenna McKenzie and Shelby Ignash have seen increased playing time over the course of the preseason as they continue to take advantage of their opportunities. Setters Peyton Dunn and Katelyn Cochran have done a stellar job of setting up their hitter for success as Cochran recently recorded 52 assists in a match, a career best. Sierra Grizzle is top 50 in the country in total digs (437) and currently leads the Big 12 in total digs and is second in digs per set (4.70).
