November 05, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (1-0) host the UTSA Roadrunners for a contest on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Tech leads the all-time series against UTSA with an undefeated 14-0 record, winning their last matchup on Nov. 20, 2023 at home by a 63-58 score.
Junior Jalynn Bristow had herself a career night against NC A&T in the season opener. Bristow posted a career-high in points (19), rebounds (9), blocks (7), field goals (7) and field goal attempts (13) and almost recorded a triple-double. Her seven blocks lead the nation alongside California Baptist's Emma Johansson, and marks the first time a Lady Raider had seven or more blocks in a game since Brittany Brewer on Feb. 23, 2020 at Iowa State.
Senior Bailey Maupin was the second Lady Raider to almost record a triple-double in the season opener after tallying 11 points, a career-best eight rebounds and seven assists. Dating back to last season, she has now scored in double-digits in 10 consecutive games. Her seven assists also ranks third in the Big 12 and 26th in the country.
Gemma Núñez and Snudda Collins went off in their Texas Tech debuts. Núñez was named the Lady Raider Dominator by the coaches after scoring 15 points on 75 percent shooting (6-for-8), while adding five rebounds, four assists and a team-best four steals. Collins also scored in double figures with 15 points and totaled six rebounds, a steal and a block. Núñez's four steals currently sits at 56th nationally and fourth in conference.
The Lady Raiders totaled 43 rebounds against NC A&T on Monday. This marks the third game in a row dating back to last season that the Lady Raiders had over 40 rebounds in a game and first time with three-straight 40+ rebound games since December 2022. Tech also held North Carolina A&T to just 11 field goals in the game on 21.2 percent shooting, which is the least amount of opponent field goals scored since last year's season opener against Incarnate Word when they made 10 field goals.
Tech held NC A&T to 21.2 percent shooting from the field on Monday, showing off the best field goal percentage defense in the Big 12 so far. In addition, the team ranks 12th nationally in the category, while also ranking eighth in blocks per game (9.0) and 17th in three-point percentage defense (.105).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The UTSA Roadrunners open their 2025-26 campaign against the Lady Raiders. Last season, the Roadrunners finished 26-5 and were crowned AAC regular-season champions with a 17-1 conference record. The team is led by reigning AAC Coach of the Year Karen Aston, now in her fifth season in San Antonio. UTSA's success last year was anchored by its defense, allowing only 56 points per game (22nd nationally) on just 37 percent shooting from the field (34th nationally). Despite winning their final nine regular-season games, the Roadrunners were upset in their first AAC tournament game by Rice, 62-58. They were also knocked out in the first round of the WBIT by Gonzaga, 67-51. Only two starters return for UTSA this season — All-AAC forward Idrara Udo (8.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and forward Maya Linton (4.0 ppg).
