November 19, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders host the Mississippi State Bulldogs for a game on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech and Mississippi State have only faced each other once in program history, with the Lady Raiders winning the contest by a 77-55 score on March 17, 2002 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Snudda Collins is having a great start to the season as she leads the Lady Raiders in points per game with 16.6. Collins is one of two players in the nation coming off the bench in every game played who averages at least 16.0 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game and is shooting above .500. She is also one of 12 players coming off the bench who has made at least nine 3-pointers, tying for first nationally in the category. Collins' 31 field goals rank 27th in the country, while her 83 total points is 35th.
Junior Jalynn Bristow is in a league of her own this season. She is the only player in the country to average more than 16.0 points per game and more than seven rebounds per game, total 15 or more blocks and shoot above .450 from the field and .400 from behind the arc. Bristow is also one of three players nationally to average 16+ points per game and seven or more rebounds per game while totaling 15 blocks. She is ranked third in the nation in blocks and sixth with 3.0 per game. She leads the team in blocks and rebounds (39), while ranking second in points per game (16.4).
Texas Tech is shooting 40 percent from behind the arc and making 9.6 3-pointers per games, which ranks 21st and 20th in the country, respectively. The Lady Raiders' 48 threes in the first five games of the year are the most in at least the last nine seasons. During that span, the most the team had made in the first five contests was 38 in 2019-20.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-0) feature one of the most prolific offenses in the country, winning by an average of 32.0 points per game. Fourth-year coach Sam Purcell, who owns a 71-35 career record (.670), has his team averaging 86.0 points per game while allowing just 54 points per game. The Bulldogs attempt only 15 threes per game but convert them at an efficient 42 percent, which ranks 13th nationally. Mississippi State also sits in the top 20 in field-goal percentage (.504) and blocks per game (7.8). The Bulldogs' stout defense has not allowed more than 62 points in a game this season and holds opponents to 34.7 percent shooting.
