NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Texas Tech sophomore running back Cameron Dickey was announced on Tuesday as the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, as selected by the organization for the games played during Week 7 of the college football season. In its 22nd year, the Walter Camp Football Foundation honors one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. It is the nation's longest-running Player of the Week award.
Dickey was also named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week, and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week on Tuesday, for his performance in the seventh week of the college football season.
Dickey rushed for a career-best 263 yards (on 21 carries) and two touchdowns as Texas Tech defeated Kansas, 42-17, on Saturday night. It was the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in school history.
Dickey scored on runs of 71 and 55 yards as the Red Raiders improved to 6-0, 3-0 in the Big 12.
Tuesday's honor marks the ninth time since 2004 that a Texas Tech player has earned Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week honors. Dickey is the second Red Raider this season to be honored, dating back to Jacob Rodriguez being tabbed the Week 4 Defensive Player of the Week. The duo is the first two honorees since former linebacker Jordyn Brooks was named defensive player of the week on Oct. 6, 2019, by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Texas Tech is on the road next, traveling to Arizona State on Saturday. The game will be televised nationally on FOX at 3 p.m. CDT.
