
Cross Country set for NMJC meet

This week's meet will be the third of the regular season
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech cross country team makes its second of four visits this year to Hobbs, N.M., for the NMJC Invite Friday morning.
Tech is coming off its only home meet of the season after hosting the Texas Tech Open last Friday. Both the men's and women's team walked away with team victories. Juliet Cherubet led the women's team with a 6k time of 20:31.10 as Anastasia Chepkorir finished in third with a time of 21:11.90.

Over on the men's side, Ernest Cheruiyot took home the win with an 8k time of 23:17.30 as Nathan Kapel placed second at 24:10.60. For his effort last week, Cheruiyot was named the Big 12 Runner of the Week Tuesday afternoon – the first weekly honor of his career and first for the Tech men since 2016.

The Red Raiders continue to climb in the polls. The men moved up one spot in the Mountain Region to No. 9, while still receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Coaches poll as the first team out of the listed top-30 nationally ranked teams.Â
The following week, the Red Raiders will head back to Hobbs for NMJC Invite No. 3, before traveling to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. During the regular season, each meet for Tech will take place on a Friday. Â
