Tech’s 14 honorees encompassed seven sports
LUBBOCK, Texas – Following another strong academic semester that featured the highest semester GPA in Tech Athletics history, 14 Red Raider student-athletes were honored with 2023 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.
Given annually to student-athletes who graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or above and have at least two seasons of participation at an FBS institution, 14 Red Raiders from seven different sports were honored. Â
Texas Tech Track and Field led the way, as seven members of coach Wes Kittley's program were honored including Joanna Archer, Lexye Price, Abigale Rhodes, Eran Siboni, Sarah Tackitt, Richard Taylor and Isabel Velasco. Â
Fresh off an appearance in the Round of 16 of the 2023 NCAA Tournament and the Big 12 regular season title, Texas Tech Soccer was also well represented as both Hannah Anderson and Penelope Mulenga were also included on the awards list. Â
Other honorees included Kamryn Caldwell (Softball), Caitlin Dugan (Volleyball), Abigail Orrick (Softball), Camryn Stepp (Tennis) and Zac Vooletich (Baseball). Â
The award comes on the heels of an announcement earlier in the week that Tech's over 400 student-athletes combined for a 3.359 Fall term GPA, the highest semester on record, and the 18th-consecutive semester that the department has boasted over a 3.0 term GPA. In total, 11 of Tech's 13 programs boasted over a 3.0 GPA including five programs that sported over a 3.5 GPA for the Fall 2023 semester. Â
