LUBBOCK, Texas – Fresh off a strong five goal week that featured her second career hat trick and being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, junior Ashleigh Williams was tabbed the United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on Wednesday.Â
The awards come on the heels of Williams taking the nations lead in goals (7) and goals per game (1.75).
A native of Allen, Williams opened the week with a bang, recording a hat trick in Texas Tech's 4-1 victory over Ball State. After giving the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead early in the match, Williams helped flip a 1-1 match at the half into a 4-1 victory scoring twice in the first 11 minutes of the half to complete the eighth hat trick in program history.
On Sunday, Williams continued her torrid start to the season scoring twice in the Red Raiders 3-0 win over Utah State. The forward got the day off to a dream start for the Red Raiders when she buried a goal just 71 seconds into the match.
Williams later scored in the 35th minute to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead.
For her performance last week, Williams was also named to the TopDrawer Soccer Team of the Week.
With her five goal performance last week, the Texan has now scored 16 goals in her last 14 matches and was the first Red Raider in program history to record three straight multiple goal games.
Tech closes a five-match homestand this weekend when they welcome UNT on Thursday night and Abilene Christian on Sunday.
