Jonathan Botros will now serve as Texas Tech’s Deputy Athletics Director, while Deedee Brown-Campbell will be the department’s permanent SWA
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt announced Thursday two modifications to his executive staff as Jonathan Botros has been promoted to Deputy Athletics Director, while Deedee Brown-Campbell has been appointed the permanent Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator.
In his new role, Botros will oversee day-to-day operations of the athletics department as the second in command to Hocutt. He will retain his previous duties as chief financial officer and will add oversight of facilities and game operations and will now serve as the sport administrator for the men's basketball program in his new capacity.
Brown-Campbell, who was initially appointed to her new role on an interim basis back in early March, will continue to oversee all of Texas Tech's Title IX oversight as well as academic services, the J.T. and Margaret Talkington student-athlete development office and all Red Raider Way programming. She will also be the athletics diversity and inclusion designee to the NCAA.
"Jonathan and Deedee are both tremendous leaders in our department and also in the Big 12 Conference," Hocutt said. "We're excited they have both accepted these two important roles in our department as we continue to strive to be the best in the country in all that we do."
Botros, a Texas Tech alumnus, has helped Texas Tech navigate one of the largest periods of budgetary growth in its history since he joined the department as Senior Associate Athletics Director and CFO in May 2016. Texas Tech will enter the 2023-24 academic year with a $113 million budget, its highest in school history.
A major point of emphasis for Botros has been the strategic management of Texas Tech's facilities debt as he helped decrease $115 million in debt upon his arrival in 2016 down to $50 million in only five years. This plan has been carried out simultaneously with the development of capital plans to construct more than $300 million dollars in new athletics facilities, namely the Sports Performance Center, the Dustin R. Womble Basketball Center, the Cash Family Sports Nutrition Center, a new baseball team clubhouse at Rip Griffin Park and now the south end zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project.
In addition to his role as CFO and management of all business operations, Botros has provided oversight for the departments of information technology and equipment operations as well as the department's relationship with The Rawls Course. He has also served as the primary contact to a number of the athletics department's key partnerships, including Club Corp, Learfield, Oak View Group Hospitality and its merchandise distributor.
"I'm humbled by the opportunity to continue to serve my alma mater, and a school that's given me so much," Botros said. "I can sincerely say I've never been more optimistic about the future of Texas Tech Athletics. With the ongoing leadership Kirby provides and the teams of talented people I'm surrounded by daily, our student-athletes are empowered to achieve more than ever before."
Brown-Campbell, meanwhile, joined Texas Tech Athletics in August 2021 as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Excellence where she had oversight over all academic support for the university's more than 400 student-athletes and the NCAA eligibility process. Her staff at the Marsha Sharp Center helped Texas Tech student-athletes boast a 3.33 GPA this past fall semester, the second-highest term GPA in school history, and then a 3.2 GPA this spring, its second-highest ever for the spring term.
Brown-Campbell arrived at Texas Tech following 10-plus years at Big 12 counterpart Baylor where she most recently served as Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services. She joined the Baylor staff from her alma mater, Arkansas, where she worked in academic support from 2004-10, which included a stretch as the Assistant Athletics Director for women's academic support prior to the combination of the men's and women's athletics departments into one unit in 2008.
Brown-Campbell was a standout track and field athlete for the Razorbacks, garnering All-America honors in the outdoor heptathlon twice during her career (2000, 2002) while claiming three SEC individual titles. Her efforts on the track earned her an induction in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2015 as well as the state of Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame that same year.
"I'm honored to accept this important position in our department on a permanent basis," Brown-Campbell said. "The potential for Texas Tech Athletics and our student-athletes is endless, and I will strive each day to help us excel and succeed in all areas as a team. My family and I couldn't be more appreciative of this new opportunity."
