
Texas Tech Celebrates 13 Graduates This Weekend

Darvin Ham and Jamodrick McGruder will be recognized among the graduates Saturday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics will have 13 of its student-athletes earn their degrees Saturday during the university's summer commencement ceremonies held at United Supermarkets Arena.

The list of graduates includes two notable names from the past in men's basketball standout Darvin Ham and baseball infielder Jamodrick McGruder, who both took advantage of the Degree Completion Program available to all student-athletes who wish to complete their degrees years after their eligibility has been exhausted.

Ham is a rising name in NBA circles as one of the league's top assistant coaches, namely in his role currently with the Milwaukee Bucks. He will earn his degree in university studies more than 20 years since leaving campus to go on to a professional playing career with the likes of the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and the Bucks.

Each of the student-athletes graduating this weekend will walk the stage wearing a special red stole that signifies the individual's status as a student-athlete. The stoles are part of a recently-established tradition that began with the 2017 spring commencement ceremonies.

Commencement exercises begin at 9 a.m. with the Graduate School, College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business, the College of Media and Communication, the College of Human Sciences, University Programs and Wind Energy.

The final ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, featuring the Graduate School, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, the Honors College, the J.T. and Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts and the College of Architecture.
