
Men's Tennis Continues Road Swing This Weekend

The Red Raiders face two Big 10 opponents on the road this weekend.
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team gears up for another challenging weekend on the road and takes a pair of Big 10 opponents in No. 23 Illinois and No. 16 Northwestern.
Friday's matchup with Illinois is set for a 12 p.m. CT followed by an 11 a.m. CT first serve versus Northwestern on Sunday. Live stats for both matches will be available courtesy of www.TexasTech.com.
The Red Raiders (6-7) are coming off their most consistent weekend of the season. After falling 4-3 to then No. 16 South Carolina, Texas Tech reeled off wins over Princeton and No. 50 Alabama to secure a fifth place finish at the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.
"I'm hoping we can build off of last weekend," Texas Tech head coach Brett Masi said. "We had great presence on the court and attitude. We just need to continue to compete like that. The competition will be tough against two Top 25 Big 10 opponents. We look forward to battling them."
Bjorn Thomson has reeled off a 9-0 record to begin the dual match season playing mostly at the No. 3 position. He has emerged with two of his last three wins in three-sets most notably over No. 105 Thomas Mayronne of South Carolina.
Connor Curry has garnered an 8-3 singles mark and won seven of his eight decisions between the No. 1 and No. 2 lines. He is on a six-match winning streak fueled by five consecutive victories in straight sets. Curry has dropped only a combined eight games over his last two wins.
Jolan Cailleau holds a No. 54 singles ranking and has been the anchor at the top of the Texas Tech lineup. He has faced off with five fellow ranked opponents in his last seven matches. The Belgium native posted a signature win on the strength of a 7-6, 6-4 decision against Alabama's Mazen Osama.
The Illini (7-5) are extremely tough at the top of the lineup with Aron Hiltzik and Aleks Vukic at No. 23 and No. 29 in the latest ITA singles rankings. Illinois' last two setbacks are against the nation's elite in No. 1 Virginia and No. 21 Kentucky
Northwestern also has a pair of singles players ranked among the Top 40 in Strong Kircheimer and Konrad Zieba at No. 28 and No. 40, respectively. The Wildcats (11-5) have lost five of their last six matches which include a trio of losses to Big 12 members Oklahoma and Oklahoma State
